My fabulous waxer Christy recommends regular exfoliation to help with scars. She also advises avoiding the sun (sorry, Christy; no can do…but it’s a nice idea) or at least using a high-SPF sunscreen and reapplying regularly especially when you’re swimming or exercising.
For those in the Temecula Valley, Christy sells Kelo-Cote scar treatment gel as well as the anti-microbially treated Japanese exfoliation towels.
When Eva had kidney reflux surgery at age four, we used Mederma Kids on her scar. Mederma is made from a compound found in onions. The kids’ version smells like grape and is purple until you rub it in enough (which is great because you can tell kids to rub until it disappears.)
The best advice for scar healing is to be four years old, because her scar is practically invisible. For those who can’t be four, try the other stuff.
And hey, even if you do have a few scars, at least they’re good for an entertaining half hour or so swapping stories at the bar.
