Jewish Ghetto of Venice

My parents just returned from a trip to Europe, and one of the places they visited was Venice’s Jewish Ghetto.

This place has the dubious distinction of being the first site called a “ghetto.”  The Italian word “getti” means metal slag, and the ghetto got its name because the city’s Jews were confined to the neighborhood of the foundries.
